Kissos

2024 • 50 x handmade CD-R • Digital Single

“Kissos” is the new Greek-voiced track by My Wet Calvin, co-produced by Yannis Veslemes, almost 10 years after their first collaboration on two songs from the album Happened Before. It was first performed live in 2018, at an anniversary event for Laternative radio show and, after being recorded at the forest, it was treated by Veslemes and Yiotis Paraskevaidis at AUX studio. It’s finally being released, on the occasion of My Wet Calvin’s 20th anniversary, in two formats: a collector’s self-release on CD in a handmade gunpowder-covered case — to be given out to 50 viewers at Death Disco on 7/12 — and digitally a few days later by Just Gazing.

GIB (2004)

2024 • Digital • Self-released

On the occasion of their 20 years anniversary MWC release one of the first tracks they ever recorded, the first track they ever played live. GIB, recorded in mono with guitar, bass, drum machine programmed on Reason and keyboards played on Yamaha PSR-47, captures the aesthetic of the band’s first recordings, the one that ran through almost all their self-releases from 2004 till 2010, when the their first “proper” album was released. The track is a tribute to the original “movement” of Greek indie bands (GIB). More to come.

Melodia on Veego’s Summer Cassette

2024 • Cassette • Veego Records

MWC were born 20 years ago, during the CD era and it was in that format that we documented our first demos for playing on home hi-fis and car stereos, we distributed our self-releases. We temporarily abandoned it around 2006 by distributing Alice Says in the form of a blank CD-R, while we returned to it for the 2 “official” albums in 2010 and 2012, but always accompanied by vinyl releases, which was then back in fashion. And although our musical “formation” had been in the cassette era – rarely “official”, more often illegally compiled by the neighbourhood record shop – our music had never been released in that format. The time is now though, with the new Veego Records compilation “Trippy Summer Vibes vol. 4”, the established summer sampler (sic) of the label that this year includes our cover on Yiannis Floriniotis “Melodia”.

Melodia

2024 • Veego Records • Digital single

“Melodia” was nominated for the stormy national final of the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest, performed by Yannis Floriniotis and the Garbi sisters. The song was not selected, Anna Vissi travelled to Holland with “Oto-Stop” and “Melodia” was never officially released, surviving in an archive video of an ERT tribute show to Floriniotis. My Wet Calvin, revisiting yet another rare moment in domestic music history, deconstruct the disco original at a lower tempo, like a 45 that, by mistake, was played at 33 rpm.

Melancholia / Melodia

2024 • 7inch single • Veego Records

On the occasion of the Record Store Day 2024, Veego Records presents a new double A-side single by MWC that compiles the recent digitally released covers on Peppino di Capri’s “Melancholia” from the mid-60s and Giannis Floriniotis’ “Melodia” from the early 80s. On the sleeves, 2 photos of photos the band discovered by accident and decided to rework, as part of the project.

Melancholie

2023 • Veego Records • Digital single

“Melancholie”, originally by german sensation Die Bambis, was a huge success in our country by Peppino Di Capri back in 1965, that great that he even sang it in Greek. The lyrics, “Melancholy of September…”, accurately capture the Greek spirit, after the end of summer and vacations. The start of school, university exams, a new beginning in some other city or maybe another country will carry the marks of summer with them. Like the humidity that brings a forgotten, weathered greek tourism poster from the 70s at a travel agency. The classic song has never been covered by any alternative band, and this is a huge challenge for My Wet Calvin. The sad vocals of the Athenian duo combined with 80s synths make it sound like an electric, autumn rain.

Agorafoviko festival

23—9—2023 • PLYFA, Athens

In September 2023, the musical constellations, the distant stars, the meteors, the pulsars, the black holes, and the zodiac circles that make up the sonic universe, where the generations of MySpace, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other lovers of social isolation have been wandering for the last 20 years, gather in the same space for a two-day, two-stage festival. The festival explores the sonic and artistic identity of a significant part of the past, present, and future of the local scene.

My Wet Calvin are presenting a concert-guided tour on the upper deck of an open-top sightseeing bus that will trace the route once taken by the procession leading to the Eleusinian Mysteries.

Meandering from the Dromokaiteio Psychiatric Hospital to that of Dafni, from the Diomedes Botanical Gardens to the port town of Skaramagas, from the River Kifissos to Lake Koumoundourou, from the rock group Diafana Krina to the bouzouki player Giorgos Zampetas, and from the song “O Babis o Flou” to Gaddafi, passengers on this sightseeing bus will go on a peculiar tour taking in “sights” and stories on the western outskirts of Athens that are often overlooked. The concert to be given on this moving bus features an expanded version of Chamomile, an anthology composition first released by the band in 2020.

Merch 2021

Chamomile Live was one of (if not the) last concert to be held in front of real people in Greece. It happened in late September 2020, just before the endless 2nd greek lockdown hit. A few items from that gig’s merch remained, including some handmade chamomile multi-use masks and are now available to order via Inner Ear’s bandcamp page.

Chamomile Video

Chamomile video was filmed in May 2020 in the historical center of western Athens that is formed by Kavalas Ave., Thivon Ave and Iera Odos, as well as in the city center.
